Cocamide MEA, or cocamide monoethanolamine, is a waxy solid, off-white, and sold in flaked form. The solid melts to yield a pale yellow viscous clear liquid. CMEA is a mixture of fatty acid amides which is produced from the fatty acids in coconut oil when reacted with ethanolamine. It is a popular ingredient found in personal care products, cosmetics, and toiletries. Widely acclaimed for its foaming properties, CMEA also acts as an emulsifier and viscosity-enhancing agent in formulations.
It is a non-ionic surfactant of non-crystalline material and is used in pH-sensitive formulations. CMEA gives an emollient effect to the end products and is used as a great emulsifier, thickener, and wetting agent. Cocamide Monoethanolamine is used as a stabilizer and foam booster.
